If you want your pool water to stay clean and crystal clear but can\u2019t tolerate the effects of chlorine, a saltwater pool might be the solution you’re looking for. Saltwater electrolysis is an alternative worth considering<\/strong>, but many people still don\u2019t know how to control the pH in a saltwater pool. In today\u2019s article, we\u2019re here to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Chlorine pool water treatment is extremely effective, but it does have some downsides. As it is a chemical product, it brings other disadvantages that are quite literally felt on the skin: allergies, eye irritation, dry skin, discoloured swimwear, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve already discussed the advantages and disadvantages of different types of pool water treatment, including both salt and chlorine<\/a><\/strong>. This time, let\u2019s focus on the treatment of saltwater pools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to control the pH in a saltwater pool?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The main advantage of saltwater pools is that they offer a natural treatment.<\/strong> However, just like chlorine pools, saltwater pools also require monitoring, both of the pH and the total alkalinity level<\/strong>, which should be between 80 and 120 ppm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saltwater pool water contains between 3 to 5 grams of salt per litre. Through the chemical process of electrolysis, the salt is converted into chlorine gas<\/strong>, which in turn acts as a powerful disinfectant that instantly dissolves in the water. Thus, a natural chlorine is created that effectively eliminates microorganisms,<\/strong> such as bacteria and algae.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, many people have doubts about how to regulate the pH of a saltwater pool. The ideal pH for a saltwater pool is between 7 and 7.6<\/strong>, with the optimal range being between 7.2 and 7.4.<\/p>\n\n\n

It is important to check the salt and pH levels at least once a week.<\/strong> If the pH of the saltwater pool is not within the range mentioned above, it is important to adjust it as soon as possible. If the water is too acidic, swimming is not recommended, as it can cause skin irritation and damage to pool components. If too alkaline, the water may start to become cloudy, indicating the presence of small organisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to raise the pH in a saltwater pool?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The best way to raise the pH of a saltwater pool is to add pH increaser liquid,<\/strong> also known as pH+<\/strong>. Alternatively, use pH reducer liquid<\/strong>, known as pH-<\/strong>. If you are unsure how to do this, follow the instructions on the packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
